FINANCIAL STATEMENT PREPARATION/PRESENTATION

Remember, that as business evolves, financial statement preparation and presentation will change depending upon who is your "audience" of the financial report.  When the only people who receive the financial reports are owners and managers, the presentation and detail of information will differ substantially from when the readers of the financial statements are banks or investors. 

Banks view financial statements with an eye towards collateral and repayment of debt, whereas investors generally have a longer term view and are more concerned with the increase in operating performance (read: VALUE), as their ownership interest will eventually be calculated as a function of the value of the business.

Althougth the information will be from the same data, financial statements should be presented in different ways depending upon who the reader is.
